Sleek prodouct
I like the sleek design of the product and its expansion capabilities. It seems to be still relevant in today's environment.
Dissapointed
Bought the Axim in November, by January it died. This is the second purchase, hoped that the 2nd time would be a charm. While it WAS working, I enjoyed the user friendly components of the PDA. Just wish that it was reliable.
Not a dinosaur yet!
Dell put out 5 different models of the AXIM, with each of them having several different variations between 2002 to the 9th of April in 2007, before they were discontinued.
This action didn't have any thing to do with their ability to stand up as a leader and a giant in a declining market for the PDA-stand alones, but cell phone-PDA's have grown to be a more popular product in the market today.
Dell Axim was the leader, and still remains the leader in some cases, with the Intel XScale Processor. The Dell Axim is operating on a Microsoft Mobile Windows platform, which makes it more compatible to most Applications than some cell phone-PDA's today.
The Dell Axim X30 has three different variations: one is the 312mhz processor with no wireless (although optional), another has a 312mhz processor with Wi-Fi and blue-tooth, and on the high-end was the 624mhz processor with Wi-Fi and blue-tooth.
Now as much as you have the option to set the processor speed within range, to preserve battery life, I like the one with the 312mhz, because they don't run hot, and the battery lasts longer.
And by the way; PDA-stand alones will never become a dinosaur to me, and I could never be programmed into the matrix of the cell phone-PDA's, because if you are on a private call, discussing a subject on your PDA, now you got yourself a problem trying to get the information with your PDA glued to the side of your face.
For example: how many times were you on the phone with someone and asked them for a telephone number that was stored in their phone, and they answer you with "I'll have to hang up to get the number, and than I'll call you back"
The only problem that I have seen with this particular model: the X30 has a tendency to get vertical lines on the screen, while it also freezes up. In some cases you can do a soft or hard reset to fix the problem.
